Artist Statement

My goal as an artist is to capture my creative movement through as many media as possible in order to attain a better understanding of the world that I live in. Every new medium summons a new form of expression. I feel that much of my work is a reflection of the environments that I have been exposed to. Between photography and film, each frame that is frozen in time allows the viewer to see the true depth of what may normally be taken for granted or overlooked. Some of my inspirations include sculptors, such as Richard Serra and Isamu Noguchi, as well as graphic designers, such as David Carson and Chip Kidd. Their ability to make the ordinary intriguing with their own unique styles and media is fascinating. My love for music is tied closely to the way I define meaning in my artwork. Each piece is like a sheet of notes. Rhythm, value, shape, texture and direction all work together in harmony to form emotion. It is this emotion that I seek, both within myself and in others. It's when we pause to breathe and take just a moment to acknowledge our surroundings outside the constant daily rush everyone always seems to be in. That's what I live for. Extracting the significance from the supposed meaningless. This life really does move quickly, so why not seize every chance to appreciate its passing or rather...our passing. I think that's something we can all work toward.
